Possible End of an Era for Canadian Travel to Cuba

Earlier this year President Obama lifted the restrictions on Cuban Americans visiting Cuba, a move that many think will pave the way for opening Cuba travel to all Americans. 

If and when that happens, Americans will certainly flock there in droves!  The proximity (only 90 miles from Florida!), the novelty of something new, and the desire to try the ‘forbidden’ fruit will result in a huge influx of tourists.    Some estimates are that a half million or more Americans could arrive in the first year, with that number growing quickly as air service and infrastructure catches up with demand.

Cat in the Hat makes $10 Million for Town

With so much to see in this world, you never know what will strike a chord with people - you could spend millions to attract tourists without success, and then along comes a cat in a hat.  ‘Only in Japan’ you say?  These days, who knows…

KISHIKAWA, Japan (CNN) — Tama is a 9-year-old calico cat, who used to live a simple life hanging out at the train station next to her home at the grocery store.

Tama the “Super Stationmaster,” in her hat cocked at a rakish angle, has become a sensation.

But with the addition of a hat, usually worn at a jaunty angle, she’s become a local, national and even international star.

The Dominican Republic shows they are serious about tourism

The Dominican Republic is one of the most popular Caribbean destinations for Canadians, and it is still picking up steam!   They will host over 4 Million tourists in 2008, and with a goal of 5 Million by 2012, ensuring that the infrastructure is keeping pace with the growth has to be a priority.

During a recent visit to Toronto, the Tourism Minister of the Dominican Republic, Felix Jiminez, announced investments of US$1-billion on infrastructure that will improve the tourist experience.  Among the developments that are planned: (more…)
