What’s Next for the Cruise Industry?

Carnival is the King of Cruising

Recently I had the opportunity to enjoy a dinner that was hosted by Carnival Cruise Lines.  The keynote speaker was Jeffrey Weinstock, their VP of International Sales and Marketing.   He had plenty of data on cruising, and also shared some fascinating insights.

The cruise industry is actually very young,  and really got going in 1980 (right around the time the ”Love Boat” television show became popular - coincidence?).  100 Million people have cruised since then, but 40% of them have been in the last 5 years!  This is a testament to the growth in cruising, the fastest growing segment of the travel industry.  A third of those guests sailed on Carnival, the most popular cruise line in the world.

More and more people are seeing the value and joy in cruising, so the prognosis for the future - a lot more growth.   41 new ships are scheduled to be launched in the next 5 years!  Many of these are stretching the limits in size and innovation (especially THIS ONE), bringing a lot of excitement to the cruise industry.  More ports are also being opened, enabling more people to drive to their cruises than ever before.

Wondering what a Carnival ship is like, and why they are so popular?  Take a look around Fun Ship Island and see for yourself!

I believe that there is an ideal cruise ship for everyone, whether it is Carnival ship or one from one of the many other great lines.  Let me know if you would like to take a cruise, and I can help you to plan your perfect cruise vacation!
