Overwhelmed by resort choices? Here is a winner…

(UPDATE – We also stayed at this property in March 2009, and it was fantastic.  I can help with any questions on the property)

A great pick for this winter!

We were in Punta Cana earlier this month, and yes, the hotel we stayed at was fantastic.  I also toured a number of other resorts and for the most part I saw what I expected to see – some great properties on a breathtaking beach… something for everyone.

One resort in particular, though, just blew me away with it’s feel, the look and layout, and the amenities offered!   It is actually two resorts, but for business purposes only… in effect, it’s one property, and all of the amenities are shared.

What resort am I referring to?

Ocean Blue and Ocean Sand Golf and Beach Resort

Let me tell you why I like this resort, and why I hope to stay there myself sometime soon:

  • After passing through reception, you enter a large ‘village square’, the entertaining and dining hub of the resort.  There are shops, restaurants, an internet cafe, a sports bar, a gourmet coffee shop, the theater, a casino, and a BOWLING ALLEY!
  • Excellent spa and gym facilities
  • Fabulous buffet restaurant with multiple stations and theme nights
  • 8 Restaurants (no reservations necessary!) and 11 Bars
  • One of the largest pools in the Dominican, including 2 swim up bars, in pool loungers, and kids areas; the cleaning crew works all night, and it is spotless
  • Plenty of included water activities, like windsurfing, kayaking, snorkelling, and boogie boarding
  • Lots of land activites as well, including a rock climbing wall, archery, soccer, tennis courts, reverse bungie, and beach volleyball
  • Countless organized activities, dance and language lessons, competitions, etc. if you are interested
  • Great kids club and teen club (featuring 6 Wii’s!, a dance floor, theatre, and countless games)
  • Affilation with White Sands Golf Course with greatly reduced rates for guests
  • On a 25 km stretch of spectacular white sand beach
  • Rooms are junior suites and are clean and in great shape, and have large jacuzzi tubs and bath amenities, North American outlets, mini fridge, coffee maker, iron and board, a large balcony, and room service
  • They allow 5 people per room, which is not typical and great for larger families
  • Clean, fresh, comfortable vibrant look with pastels and low 3 story buildings
  • A true Canadian favourite, with approximately 85% of the guests arriving from Canada
