Why Oberammergau is the place to be in 2010 (but you need to know about it now)

A play of life and death, promised in a moment of mortal threat – so began the history of the Oberammergau Passion Play in 1633.  In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the Oberammergauers swore an oath that they would perform the “Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ” every ten years.  At Pentecost 1634, they fulfilled their pledge for the first time on a stage they put up in the cemetery above the fresh graves of the plague victims.

In the year 2010, the Community of Oberammergau will perform the Passion Play that they have preserved throughout the centuries with singular continuity for the 41st time.  In this spirit, during a work period of several years, text and music were fundamentally revised, new settings and costumes were designed and a new production was created in countless rehearsals. In 2010, more than 2,000 Oberammergauer actors, singers, instrumentalists and stage technicians bring to the stage those events that Christianity regards as its central source of life and hope.  The Play takes approximately seven hours, including a dinner break.

Tickets for this epic production of the Passion Play are selling now, and are only available through a select group of tour operators. Travelonly is working with a premium Canadian company, who has put together an number of exciting itineraries to complement the stay in Oberammergau to witness the Play.

This opportunity will not last long, as tickets will be sold out within the next few weeks and months. Contact me NOW to go over potential itineraries and pricing!
